2011-2012 Season
During the 2011-2012 WHS Drama Season, Director Patrick Lambrecht returned to the auditorium to spearhead the department's three main-stage productions. Additionally, the WHS Drama Club put on the annual Drama Day Plays for District 145 elementary schools. The Spring of 2012 marked the first all-middle school musical, Once On This Island Jr, directed by Patrick Lambrecht and Rachel Kornfeld.

This season, WHS hosted the annual EMC One-Act Competition. After the eight schools competed, special guest performers from Crooked Codpiece, (including our own Patrick) entertained the competing schools while totals were calculated.

Fall Play: 12 Angry Jurors
Waverly actors were challenged by taking on Reginald Rose's classic courtroom drama, 12 Angry Jurors. This show is inherently challenging in the fact that all actors are onstage at all times, not to mention the spot-on timing required to make the arguments amongst jurors sound convincing to an audience.

Actors received several compliments on how well they handled the maturity of the content, making scenes realistic without being over-dramatized.

Hamlet: Zombie Killer of Denmark

1/10
One-Act: Hamlet: Zombie Killer of Denmark
This cleverly-written piece by Chris Stiles mashes up the classic language of Shakespeare with the pop-culture zombie craze for a hilarious spin of the bard's immortal Hamlet. WHS hosted the annual EMC Competition and went on to receive District Runner-Up in Norfolk. Several students were recognized at both competitions for outstanding acting.

Musical: Godspell
This psychedelic musical retells the parables of Jesus from the book of St. Matthew almost entirely through song and dance. The show lends itself to unique costuming and set design which made this production visually and aurally stimulating. Godspell was aptly timed, running the week before Easter.

Junior High Production: Once On This Island Jr.
This marked the first-ever production casted entirely with junior high students. Familiar faces from past musicals got their chance to shine as the stars of their very own show under the direction of Patrick Lambrecht and Rachel Kornfeld. The students sang, danced and acted in this full-length production.
